Great Wall Of China – An Unforgettable Tourist Attraction

The Great Wall of China is the only man made creature that can be seen from Space. Thus you can imagine the importance of this wall. The Chinese call this superb wall as Wan Li Chang Cheng which actually means Wall of Ten Thousand Li. A Li is a unit of Chinese measurement of distance like mile or kilometer.

The Great Wall of China is among the greatest wonders of the world. It was enlisted in the World Heritage by UNESCO in 1987. Just like a gigantic dragon, the Great Wall moves across deserts, grasslands, mountains and plateaus, covering approximately 6,700 kilometers (4,163 miles) from east to west of China. Inspite of the fact that some parts are ruined, this Great Wall of China is still one of the most tempting attractions in the world. It attracts the tourists because of its architecture and historical significance.

The construction of Great Wall of China was the result of the Spring, Autumn, and Warring States Periods as a defensive reinforcement by the three states: Yan, Zhao and Qin . The later dynasties through constant extensions and repairs maintained it. Historical records showed that about 300,000 men were working for ten years on the first phase of the wall construction. This great wall was constructed mostly with bricks and masonry. Chinese rulers of about 10 dynasties made this wall.

The various sections through which you can view the wall are Badaling Great Wall and Jinshanling, Mutianyu, Simatai, Gubeikou in Beijing, Huangyaguan in Tianjin, Shanhaiguan in Hebei Province and Jiayuguan in Gansu Province. Viewing all the section is not possible until and unless you have the proper time and means.
